Much Improvement & More Work

I took Chauncey to her lesson last night with Maggie. Jasmine stayed home because she had her teeth cleaned and was still a little dopey. I warmed up with a little heel work and then we started with her jumping. We did the high jump and then the broad jump. Chauncey is getting the idea about the difference between the two jumps and did not have any problems last night trying to go around them. The high jump is at 20" and the broad jump is at 36", when Chaucney gets to regulation heights the high jump will be at 26" and the broad jump will be at 52". We are gradually increasing the height and length of them until we get to the full measurement.

We then worked some more on the drop on recall and both of us did much better. I left Chauncey in a sit-stay and went about 70 feet from her. I would call her and when she was about 25 feet from me, I would give her the "down" command and walk in to her as she went down and then rewarded once she was down. I would then tell her to "stay" and return to where I started at and call her the rest of the way in to a front position. Once she came to my front, then more treats and praise. I had a few handling errors, mainly with where and when I give commands and reward, so I will be working on that also. I also need to praise more and in a higher pitch voice, as I tend to get serious when we are working and Chauncey works much better and happier if I praise a lot.

It's so obvious by the way that you write that you love working with your dogs. Life's so short & I think it's wonderful you get to have a hobby like this that you thoroughly enjoy.
