Mac's Birthday Trail Ride

I spent yesterday afternoon in the woods with my family as we celebrated my niece, Mac's, 5th birthday. Mac wanted to go for a trail ride with her pony, so that consisted of trailering the 3 ponies and stuff about 30 miles from our house to the state preserve. After driving about 4 miles off the main road, down a little dirt road (2 tire tracks), we came to lovely camping clearing, which we had to ourselves. Several friends and the rest of the family came, so it was quite a turn out. We also brought the kid's battery cars so they could drive around. They spent a couple hours driving in the woods and playing, once everyone was there and had lunch we went riding. There were about 8 kid's, so we saddle the ponies and led them on rides down the road. We probably went about a mile and then changed riders and walked back, I think everyone enjoyed it. After coming back and resting for a few minutes, we took them on another ride in a lovely field that adjoined the shady glen we were in. It was just our group and was very peaceful and nice. It probably was around 80 degrees with a nice breeze to keep us cool. After we got home and took care of the horses, everyone had to do a tick check. Several were found and promptly killed and later removed, nasty little critters. Thankfully, I did not have any, but all the kid's had at least one on them.
